Jurong East (裕廊东) is a vibrant regional hub located in the western part of Singapore, renowned for its transformation from an industrial zone to a thriving residential and commercial area.
As part of the South West CDC, it boasts excellent connectivity, with the Jurong East MRT interchange station serving both the East-West and North-South Lines, along with easy access to major expressways like the PIE and AYE.
Residents of Jurong East enjoy a well-rounded lifestyle with a wide range of amenities. With ongoing developments in the Jurong Lake District, even more exciting changes are on the horizon.
Here are the HDB subzones in the Jurong East estate:
I live in Jurong & my connection to Jurong East dates back to my past working days at Creative Technology. I explored many nice coffee shops, shopping malls for good food around Jurong East HDB Flats, Jurong East MRT and IMM during my lunch breaks. There was a free shuttle bus that brings us from International Business Park to the neighbourhood cofeeshop. I enjoyed the free shuttle bus service.
Jurong East is a nice convenient place to live in & work in. There are many shopping malls, banks, facilities.
Jurong East enjoys excellent connectivity through the Jurong East MRT Interchange, linking the East-West Line (EWL) and the North-South Line (NSL). The upcoming Jurong Region Line will further enhance transportation options, making this area one of the most well-connected regions in Singapore.
Jurong East was once part of Singapore’s first industrial estate in the 1960s. It transformed from a mangrove swamp filled with fish and prawn ponds into a thriving industrial hub, marking the start of its growth into a vibrant town.
Public housing development in Jurong East began in the 1970s. This transition from an industrial zone to a bustling residential town contributed significantly to the area’s steady growth into the vibrant community it is today.
Jurong East is currently being developed into Singapore’s second Central Business District (CBD). The ambitious Jurong Lake District project aims to create 100,000 new jobs and transform the area into a “district of the future,” bringing in even more business, commercial, and residential opportunities.
Jurong Lake Gardens, Singapore’s third national garden, is located in the heart of Jurong East. The gardens, which feature wetlands, playgrounds, and water sports facilities, offer a beautiful recreational space for residents and visitors to enjoy. It’s a perfect blend of nature within the urban setting.
Jurong East is home to several large shopping malls such as IMM, JEM, and Westgate, which offer a variety of retail and dining options. These malls have become a lively shopping and entertainment destination for residents and visitors alike.
Compared to other parts of Singapore, Jurong East offers relatively affordable housing options. The cost of living here is lower, making it an attractive location for families and individuals seeking urban conveniences without the high costs typically associated with central Singapore.
As a key transport hub, Jurong East is centrally connected with multiple MRT lines, including the East-West and North-South lines. The upcoming Jurong East Integrated Transport Hub, slated for completion in 2027, will further improve transportation efficiency, making commuting even easier for residents.
These facts showcase how Jurong East has evolved over the years from an industrial area into a vibrant and thriving community. With its strong connectivity, green spaces, affordable living, and a growing business district, it’s no wonder that Jurong East is becoming one of the most attractive places to live in Singapore.
